i have the policia fairing also, would the spots be above or below the hl centerline if i just used the turn signal brackets that mount to the pinch bolts. i would kind of like them slightly above but they dont have to be.

Greg, you're the guy that would know, but didn't the LAPD bikes mount the spots on brackets from the headlight ears? I think Keith's "Patience" is set up that way. |
Some were; others weren't.
I've seen at least three setups shown in old photos of cop bikes.
Earliest, they were set up with a special Guzzi stud through the
headlight ears that had a block at the outer end on which the spotlights
mount. These studs are still available (or were last year). Spots were
directly alongside the centerline of the headlight. These were usually
used with the one-piece turnsignal strap that mounts to the pinch bolts
for the lower tripple-tree. Some of these genuine Guzzi straps were
designed to mount genuine Harley turnsignals; others for the Lucas
signals, and still others for the large Dietz signals. These you can use
without having the windshield brackets.
Then, they fitted many with Harley spotlight mounts (they bolt to the
windshield mounts). These put the spots alongside the headlight, just
barely below the headlight's centerline. I've had a set lik this fitted
for the last three years. They're cheap through the Harley aftermarket.
They're for the 1960-1984 Harley FLH. You need to have the windshield
brackets, though.
Later, they used special Guzzi spot mounts that bolt to the shield
brackets and carry the spots above the centerline of the headlight.
These came along in about mid-1973 and usually carried the larger,
6-inch Dietz spotlights. These brackets aren't hard to find. (I have a
set I might trade, if anyone's interested. They're unused since being
powdercoated.) To use these, you need windshield brackets.
I'm sure Mark can add to/correct this, but these are the setups I can
think of.
