Right on. Part of owning a 30 year old bike is dealing with the fact that it
is 30 years old and having fun getting to know the little idiosyncracies
that make her special. In fact....anytime you deal with machinery you are
subjecting yourself to possible failure. Nature of the beast.
One thing I can say about these birds is they run long. Of course they have
problems here and there but for the most part the will last much longer that
other bikes (read that HD's). When I see Loops with 100k miles or when I
hear stories like Charlie's ( 3000 miles on a 69 unrestored Ambo) I know
that these bikes are reliable beasts. Their beauty is a bonus :-)
Bob.....the first year you had the bike you wondered whether you had made
the right choice. Then you worked out the bikes and were happy. Everytime
the bike has a problem you will feel that way. Get use to it....part of
owning a 30 year old bike. If you don't want to tinker....get a 2001 model.
OK....I am off the soap box and heading back into the garage to continue
making my 70 Ambo not only reliable but even more pretty as well.
