The original fendertip and tank decorations were originally silk
screened onto the tanks, as were the sidecover logos. The replacement
decals that were made at the time for repairs were the water slide
type, which may be prone to yellowing. The decals you're talking about
are the ones I sold you (and lots of other people on this list). I'm
glad you brought up the question, it's good to be concerned about it and
gives me an opportunity to toot my horn. I've made a study of this over
the years.
In order to get the kind of detail in the eagle wings, there is no
way to cut it out of vinyl like the sidecover decals, it has to be
printed on something. What my decals are printed on is a special 2-mil
self adhesive clear vinyl made by 3M, and die cut as closely to the
design as possible.
For what it's worth, I haven't been made aware of any yellowing or
fading problems, and I've been selling them for over 5 years, which is
when I started making them for my own restorations since I couldn't
find anyone supplying the correct ones. The decals I used on my Ambo
about 6 years ago and clearcoated over look just the way they did when
fresh, and they've sat out under the hot sun at many meets over the
years. For anybody interested in what we're talking about, go to

By the way, the '69 Ambo project on pg. 1 and 2 there just got started
up on Sunday after a complete tear down , I'm a happy guy.
As a final thought, you might ask your painter regarding the UV
stability of his clearcoat; I imagine that most of them offer UV
protection these days to stop paint from fading, offering additional
protection against the elements if you're concerned.
