Paul, does the brown seal have directional marks (little raised lines that all curve in the same direction)? I just got my 5spd back together and put new seals in. I put a blue seal into the rear/output shaft, and a black on the input side. The black one was called "serrated" due to those directional marks, but I cannot remember if it was viton. I was instructed to put the seals in that way by Larry Klein from GT Motors. PO had blue seals on both, which was previously OK according to Guzzioloigy, but this allowed some gearlube migration into my clutches when I overfilled.( i didn't know not to use the level plugs when I filled it before and added too much).
Maybe call Larry Klein at GT Motors (517) 485-6815, but he might not answer the phone on Mondays (says he is closed, but sometimes is there, otherwise open Tue->Sat). Also, he usually doesn't open until 11AM.
