I kind of like the crusty old switches! I have always put a little
conductive grease in them. Keeps the operation smooth and reliable. I also
run my headlight through a pair of relays (high and low beam) as I use a
55/100 watt bulb.
I am kind of surprised that the TS switch would fail from anything other
than outright wear as there is not much current there.
There are some good alternatives. Mark would know.

The headlight switch fried itself into the on position long ago, which is fine, but today the turnsignal switch melted the rocker part of the assembly.
