Mine are cut 4 thou bigger than the pistons, no problems. Did many this way
with sleeved cylinders.
The MOST IMPORTANT THING is to measure the piston correctly. The piston
will be biggest 90 degrees from the pin on the skirt. Any good engine
machinist will know this so go to a reputable shop and worry not.
But as others have said, the nikasil are getting cheaper and they do work
quite well.

Hi All, I'm planning on using an (existing) set of iron lined cyls. while I save up the $$ for a set of nikasil jugs. unfortunately it looks like a botched liner install -- there was 0 piston/cyl clearance at the top of the bores! Matter of fact, the cyls were even a bit undersized. There was also a bit of taper to the bores. My local machine shoppe will ream them out, I only need to know what piston/cyl clearances I need. Guzziology says to add .001" to the plated clearance figures. I'll probably go with this figure. Am I asking for trouble trying to rework these liners? jeff |
