I'm planning on using an (existing) set of iron lined cyls. while I save up the $$ for a set of nikasil jugs. unfortunately it looks like a botched liner install -- there was 0 piston/cyl clearance at the top of the bores! Matter of fact, the cyls were even a bit undersized. There was also a bit of taper to the bores. My local machine shoppe will ream them out, I only need to know what piston/cyl clearances I need. Guzziology says to add .001" to the plated clearance figures. I'll probably go with this figure. |
I tried this about 15 years ago when I couldn't find plated cylinders for my
V700. They seized. I then had them bored out to greater clearances. They
seized. I think I had them bored out 3-4 times and they would still seize.
I finally gave up. Recently I found that you can get Nikasil and bought a
couple. They work great.
My opinion, from my experience, wait till you can afford a new set of
cylinders/pistons/rings.
