What is odd is that they were fine 10 years ago when I greased them after replacing the fork lock, the bike has sat garaged since then and the grease seems fine. Nothing is hanging up because only the triple tree is on, tubes, lowers, wheel are all off, no cables or electrics. The fork lock is retracted... |
that. Put your finger on the lock while turning the triple trees and see
if you can feel it contacting the stem as you do it.
so you made me go out to the garage. With eyes closed and very slowly, both bearings have a "gritty" feel at one point, I wouldn't call it a notch but then I am not known for describing what my hands are feeling. |
really don't think you should go into describing what your hands are
feeling.
A gritty feeling probably means a bad bearing, since you're in there
already it's a simple enough thing to replace. Won't cost you nothin'.
