Paul:
The reason that your clutch is grabbing probably has to do more with
the clutch input hub on your transmission, this is the part that the
splined inside of your friction discs ride back and forth on when you
shift. What happens is that the splines get worn and grooved, and the
discs hang up in them and then suddenly engage, or grab. The cheap fix
is to go at the grooves in the spline with a dremel tool and smooth them
out so the discs ride over them easily, and grease them very lightly
with some moly grease or similar.
If you're replacing your clutch anyway and the input hub is really
trashed, you should consider buying a new hub with 4mm depth splines
instead of the 2mm ones that you probably have and the problem will be
solved forever. You'll have to get the corresponding 4mm clutch discs.
The o-ring fix from Moto Int'l is a solution to stop the oil from
leaking past the clutch pushrod. There are 5 of them, and are apparently
a weird size that they have made specially for them. They work pretty
well, and cost under ten bucks if I remember, comes with an instruction
sheet.

Has anyone tried the O-ring change that I had read about some time ago? and if so what size and how many of the little buggers? Paul |
