I second John's vote. Replace both with new ones and ride in
confidence. As an added bonus, on long trips carry along your best
'spare' u-joint/carrier for any needed replacement that might occur.

I vote for replacing them both. The chances are that when the U-joint
explodes, it ain't gonna happen in your driveway. Moto Int'l has the
best price on the U-joint that I've found, the carrier bearing is
available from any bearing shop.

Subject: Need Help on U-Joint and Carrier Bearing - 72 Ambo

I've finally installed the engine in the frame for my 72 Ambo project.. and
I'm turning my attention to the driveshaft and u-joint.

Question for the list: I have two u-joint assemlies, both of which have a
slight.. but noticeable bit of slop. Splines are ok. Is it false economy to
go ahead and use one of them? Moto Intl gets over $200 for a new one. Same
question for the carrier bearing. It feels good, but I have no idea how old
it is, and I think a new bearing goes for about $30.

Replace 'em both or keep 'em and drive carefully? I know.. It's all money.

Thanks
