Fred,
My Eldo came with a pre-cracked generator bracket that had been welded
back together - no exactly the best looking welding job but it seems to
do the job. In Guzziology, Dave R. sez that many owners over tightened
the generator belt and put too much strain on the bracket .. along with
the bracket not really being designed all that well.
His suggestion is to weld on an additional support arm on the rear of
the generator bracket to offset any strain at the front of the
generator. This support arm is then bolted to the frame by using one of
the distributor base bolts. A pretty easy fix if you have a welder
(this was one of my first MIG projects). He also recommends that you
replace the generator hold-down bolts with studs since every time you
thread/unthread the steel bolts into the aluminum body, bad things
happen to the aluminum threads.

All this talk of loose/buzzy generator brackets prompted me to pull mine out and examine it. It shows some evidence of running with the bolts loose and there is a nice crack from the forward hole to the edge. When I bolted it to the block and put in the generator, the generator doesn't quite touch the block where the locating pin is. Is theis where guys have been adding the rubber?
