Also a good idea to raise the front end slightly (with a floor jack or blocks) so that all the oil will drain from the engine sump and do the same to level the bike if your using the level holes. Personally, I prefer to measure the amounts going in. Also, after filling the rear drive I ride the bike until the rear drive is as warm as possible (may take a hot day for this) then open the fill plug to relieve any pressure however slight and replace the plug. Assuming all the seals are good, I believe this helps prevent leaks. At least it has worked for me on Guzzis for the last 17 years. YMMV. Cheers,
