Actually, You don't want the generator to spin with the Ignition off. But if
one of the regulator contacts sticks it can cause the generator to "motor",
You will NOT know this right away unless the belt breaks or is very loose
and you see the generator turning. Normally it just runs the battery dead in
a couple of hours and after the battery is completely dead the contact opens
leaving you puzzeled as to why you have a dead battery and no other
symptoms. I do not remember which contact in the regulator causes this but I
have seen it happen twice. solution, clean the contacts or replace the
regulator.
