Jack,
Check the drain screws on each fork leg. I found mine has started a leak
there at one time and sprayed me and the tank with fluid.

Need an opinion from the list. The trusty Eldo started throwing ATF all |
me and the front on the gas tank. Looks like fork seals are shot. I now have the forks apart and am awaiting Monday, AM, the left coast so I can order parts. Reading Guzziology (page 20-6), I see that the early bikes (Ambassador, Eldo w/drum brakes) still use seals designed primarily for rotating applications. Therefore, is it desirable to stack two seals in |
leg? Also, where else could fork oil escape? I'll replace the O-rings on the |
caps. The fork tubes look to be in perfect shape w/no imperfections in |
chrome. Your input is appreciated as I don't want to do this job again |
long time. Separate Heartburn - I got the new clutch in my Ambassador and got her running. Thanks to those on the list who helped me diagnose lack of spark |
the R-H jug as improperly connected tach wire at the coil. My joy was |
lived when I discovered the rear main seal is leaking like a sieve. I |
run the bike for probably 6 months prior to disassembly. Had I done so, I would have seen the leak and fixed it while the engine was laying on the bench. Now I get to take it all apart again. Temporarily I shoved it to |
back of the garage, put an aluminum tray under the engine, and told it to wait it's turn. I HATE it when the problems are something I should have |
coming. Story of my life. Jack Lundberg Colorado Springs, CO '72 Ambassador, '73 Eldo, '86 LeMans 1000, |
