Need an opinion from the list. The trusty Eldo started throwing ATF all over
me and the front on the gas tank. Looks like fork seals are shot. I now
have the forks apart and am awaiting Monday, AM, the left coast so I can
order parts. Reading Guzziology (page 20-6), I see that the early bikes
(Ambassador, Eldo w/drum brakes) still use seals designed primarily for
rotating applications. Therefore, is it desirable to stack two seals in each
leg?

Also, where else could fork oil escape? I'll replace the O-rings on the fork
caps. The fork tubes look to be in perfect shape w/no imperfections in the
chrome. Your input is appreciated as I don't want to do this job again for a
long time.

Separate Heartburn - I got the new clutch in my Ambassador and got her
running. Thanks to those on the list who helped me diagnose lack of spark in
the R-H jug as improperly connected tach wire at the coil. My joy was short
lived when I discovered the rear main seal is leaking like a sieve. I hadn't
run the bike for probably 6 months prior to disassembly. Had I done so, I
would have seen the leak and fixed it while the engine was laying on the
bench. Now I get to take it all apart again. Temporarily I shoved it to the
back of the garage, put an aluminum tray under the engine, and told it to
wait it's turn. I HATE it when the problems are something I should have seen
coming. Story of my life.
