Heh. Leave it to me to have non-obvious problems. It keeps
life interesting, I guess. It appears that a bearing race
let go in my 4-speed tranny and little bits of race have been
floating around my ambo for who knows how long. It's definitely
not a pretty sight.
I took it as a sign and figured I'd better tear the engine down
and see what was going on in there. The good news is that the
chrome looks good. No obvious cracks, bubbles, etc. Some slight
discoloration, but the bores look ok.
The odd thing was that when I pulled the left side head, the holes
through the cyl that the pushrods travel through were more
semi-circular than round. The metal head base gasket holes didn't
line up anywhere near the holes in the jug. Yet another fine
casting. I'm guessing this isn't normal. I'd like to keep these
cylinders as they seem ok otherwise. Does it make sense to have
them machined to round?
