2 12 volt batteries in parallel = 12 volts and double the cranking amps.
2 6 volt batteries in series = 12 volts and no more cranking amps than one
battery. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...its been a while since
High School electronics class.

Since my speedo cable now runs straight down through the stock battery location I have been considering my options. The wisdom of the list suggests a lawn tractor battery mounted sideways. I gave this a trial fitting and it does work but it upsets my finely tuned sense of symmetry. WHAT IF... You put in two smaller batteries side by side leaving a space in between for the cable? Would they have to be 12 or 6 volts each? Serial or parallel connection? Itty bitty M/C batteries are cheap at Wally World so I thought I might experiment if it is technically feasible.
