You might try taking the Alt to a shop who rebuilds auto alternators and
starters and see if they can tell you which plug wire does what (diode,
field, whatever).

If you can find someone with a Metro, ask if you can look in their engine
compartment. Maybe the wires will either be color coded, or easily
traceable. I'd love to do this mod on my bike, but I'm not gonna fix what
ain't broke, especially if that alternator has a lot of gold in it! I used
to own a VW Rabbit, so I know what you mean by that. They're cursed with
expensive replacement parts too.
Hope this helps! Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. The alternator was purchased at AutoZone and I
have them test it but it is done on a fool proof machine that will tellyou
if it is good or bad but not anything else cable and adaptors are notmetro.
explained just connect wire d to adapter a type stuff. The counter person
knows nothing but how to look up parts. This alternator is for a Geo
12volt 55amp rebuilt. From the price it has a significant gold content. The
label on it readsreceptical
World Class
remanufactured
14850 34
BARCODES
made in Japan J104
On the back of the alternator ther is the output post and a plug
with three spade connectors. I think all the Metros use the samewires--and
alternator.
I will try again to find more info on my own but any help would be
appreciated.

Go to an auto parts house that can check alternators--take the Geo altyou. Tell them to check it and then watch how they hook it up. If youknowwhat type of Geo it came off of, the person checking will look up thewiringdiagram to hook it up. Plus you get it tested to make sure that it'sworkingcorrectly. It should be pretty easy to see the wiring when he does it.Youmight even write it down--offer the explanation that maybe the vehicleiswired wrong if you feel compelled to offer one. For what it's worth, mostinternally regulated alternators only use 2 wires--one from the switchthat"excites" the alt, and the cable to the battery, (sometimes 3
bethat's the one that depends--like to the idiot light or fusebox--someplacewhere it can "sense" current usage). It should be pretty easy to wire.manuals
Another option is to visit your local library--they should have shopfor Geos or can get one. Trace the path of the alt wiring--it only goesin
2or 3 places. If you want, mail me the particular alt info and I'll lookintoit. I've never done it on a Loop, but I've switched a number on carsoverthe years.there
