The holes in the rods are not for lubrication of the rod bearings. The
rod bearing are lubed through the crank. The holes were ment to spray
oil up into the clys and also the bottom side of the piston for
lubrication and cooling.
The holes do cause a drop in oil pressure like a loose bearing would .
so if your oil pump is not up to snuff it would be better not to have
them.
I'm not sure when guzzi started and stopped them? But thats what they
are for.
