Keep me updated, I would like to go to Wis. also. Beautiful country, rode
there last summer on a little jaunt. A friends dad lives in Mineral Point. A
place to stay if in that area.

Subject: Gigantic Loop Loop 2002 (longish)
Hi All,
I'm doing the usual dreaming about the coming riding season and have
decided to do both the Wisconsin and National rallies in one big loop. I
get two weeks paid vacation, and unlike other years I'm not going to
stay home and (try to) catch up on projects. I'm not getting any younger
and there's lots of the country I want to see.
So, the plan is to leave my home in western Maryland on Wednesday, July
31st bound for the Wisconsin Rally on the 2nd-4th. From there it's up
into Canada, across and down into the Adirondaks for the National on the
8th-11th. Should be home in plenty of time for work on the 14th even
with side trips (maybe the Finger Lakes region without getting rained on
for once?).
Using Mapquest mileage as a guide, it looks like it will be around 2400
miles. Since this is a vacation, I want to keep the daily mileage
relatively low. No long days without a good meal and some sight-seeing
for me! May camp at the rallies, but motel the rest of the way. The
route so far has lots of scenic roads according to the road atlas. If I
need to make time, I can always hop on an interstate for a while.
If y'all don't mind, I'll be asking for some input on sections of the
ride. Also recommendations on lodging, places to eat and things to
see/do along the way. It would be great if some list members could join
in along the way. Or anyone want to do the entire Loop with me?
One question to start off - where is the Wisconsin Rally held? So far
I've just plotted that part of the course to MG Cycle. Is the rally near
them? August is a ways off, but this really helps me beat the winter
doldrums. Cheers,
Charlie
