Dave,
There's really no mystery to the forks, they're just a pain to take
apart and get back together, but it can be done. There are two big
headaches; 1, getting the chromed spring cups off of the top of the
sliders, and 2, getting the snap rings that are under the collars out
and then back in.
I found that the big trick with getting the collars off was first
getting them in a position where you could do something with them. What
you need is a vise mounted on a long-low bench. Next, you'll need some
heat, on the collar threads. An electric heat gun works best. You'll
also want to check into building or borrowing a wrench for backing off
the collar. Some guys have used strap and/or chain wrenches for this
purpose.
In any event, be ready to spend some quality time with your forks, and
to pick up a few new vocabluary words in the process. Like I said, it
can be done, it just isn't easy.

After a few days off from work I have the Eldo tore down to the frame, looks like one of the uncertain things that lay ahead is the wiring, have seen a few different posts on this and read what I can, anyone have any suggestions as to different options? It looks like you could make a new harness from scratch or I've seen new ones listed, I haven't talked to any parts sources yet. Also reading past posts and info in Guzziology has me somewhat hesitant to get the forks apart, any suggestions would be appreciated. Dave Linder North Platte, NE (cold but no snow) |
