Cold air is denser, and in some places moister, gives you more oxygen to burn with your fuel, plus some cooling of intakes, leading to slower, stronger burn in the cylinder. They pack ice around intakes on some race engines.
I get double benefit, going to California. I get that cooler, moister air, plus I get real gasoline, instead of the junk they sell here in Nevada. My Ambo runs like a new bike when I'm in Sandy Eggo.
