Even funnier ,my 30+ year old switches work fine ,NEVER let me down.THe funny thing is the lamp cord often seen on older Japanese bikes is there for the same reason as all the other bikes it winds up on. The owners didn't understand basic maintenance. The Jap stuff is far from bullet proof and very over rated. BTW shrink wrap (Polyolefin) is not at all supple. Good vinyl is. I do hate to see bikes come in where shrink tube is used in place of vinyl flex. I bought an Eldo this year that was about 20% wired with lamp cord.Tom (Bowes)and I had quite a laugh! The horn switch was a doorbell button 33 Scotch taped to the handlebar. A CH toggle switch on the other bar for the turn signal. This was all done about 15 years ago by the PO. Every thing worked ! I did replace the lamp stuff and the switches. Replaced with automotive primary wiring and put the original CEV switches back on. Not a single glitch in the 5000+ miles so far this summer and I am sure they won't be a problem in the future. Never had any problems with the stuff in the past. NOW as for my neighbors' CB900 Honda...... :-) Zerhackermann . wrote:
funny, jap wiring and switches seem to always work without a problem. Even after years of neglect. I took hammer to the junk CEV switches and replaced them with good aluminum housed jap switches. I love a 30 year old switch
that has solid connections, still supple insulation and shrink wrap and no brittle bakelite crap. Unfortunately can't say the same for italian wiring and switches. And I do have choice words for cheapskate dipsticks and lampcord wiring.
