Jeff,
These things are a total bear to break loose. I had to modify a piece
of steel pipe into a spline tool. The modified pipe had 4 splines at the
end so that it regestered into the treaded collar inside of the chrome
spring collar. I also had to heat treat the splines on the pipe because
my first attempt just broke the splines on the pipe. The pipe was long
enough so I could drill a hole at the top above the fork tube. In the
upper hole of the pipe spline tool I inserted a 4 foot long cheater bar
to apply the torque. I eventually got the things apart but it wasn't
easy. The Guzziology book says that getting the the forks apart is
vertually impossible. I also let the forks set with liqiud wrench fluid
flooding then threaded area for a couple days. I also rapped on the top
of the pipe spline tool with a hammer while applying the torque.
I know this is confusing but it was my approach after all other
attempts failed. In my case I really wanted to get these things apart
because my fork seals were completely gone.
I guess if all your attemps fail, I could send you a (or e-mail)you a
sketch of the tool I made with dimensions so you could make a pipe
spline tool.

Well, I've broken two strap wrenches, and the darn things still haven't

I've tried heat, penetrating oil, strap wrenches, you name it. I'm to
the
point
where I'm seriously afraid i'm going to break something.

someone please tell me they are not a reverse thread and I've been
grunting
away
in the wrong direction for the last couple of days.
