COngrats on the new loop! Mine is still DOA so I'm a little jealous.
And stop the talk on the hot rod merc. the 49-51 are the sexiest cars ever
made. Until the mopar muscle cars came along that is.

As to your problem. I would hazard a guess that it is not the cyclinder, but
the crank case breather. (I dnon't know how familiar you are with the loop,
so I might sound a little simplistic) the black tin box that sits just aft
of the generator is the breather. There should be 3 hoses on it. 2 short
ones that the box sits on top of and one thicker long one that should run
down uderneath the bike. I suspect the last one might be AWOL and so the
breather might be dripping on to the case?

One of the things I have learned about these beasts is that there is a lot
of places for them to leak oil in such a way that you think the
head/cylinder is leaking.

keep us in the loop (yech, sorry)

I just found this site(oh boy). This spring I bought my second
loopframe . My first was a new '70 Ambassador then a 20+ year
layoff. Filling my needs with 2or3 hot rods a chopped '51 Merc.
some hopup VWs,MGs and a Corvair. After the wife it was time for a bike.
So I started looking for a loopframe. I found a 75 850T well
it was a Guzzi so I bought it, rode it for 3years then had
transmission problems. This spring I was still looking for a loopframe.
I got home form work and on my answering mmachine was a messagefrom a
diehard Harley friend. He says I have a '74 Guzzi in my
back yard are you interested. I bought it the next day for $1200.It
runs better and stronger then my 'T'. The only thing I HAD to do aside
from tires was rebuild the generator then replace te regulator.
Then some personal touches.
But 2 weeks ago on the way back from Grand Rapids Guzziin MI. to South
Bend IN. I ran out of gas at about 75mph. which is know big deal in its
self But my reserve is slow and will not keep up with the
throttle so I ran down the road at 1/2 throttle for aabout a 1/8mi.
to a rest stop and as I was putting gas in I noticed oil down the
left side from behind the cylinder. It has never done this befor or
sense. The oil was up were it sould be on the stick when I ran out,
and when I got home it was not down any.
