Andy,

Were the replacement cylinders new? When I rebuilt mine I used the same STP
stuff. The engine was strong from the getgo. What was the tolerance on the
pistons?

I doubt that the cylinder will need to be honed. I would first verify that
the compression test was done right and is accurate. After that I would do a
"leak down test" to determine whether the problem is in the cylinders or the
valves.

I hate to say it but the valves could be bad.

One other thought.....maybe the piston/cylinder set wasn't matched???? (i.e.
you got a A piston and put it into a C cylinder?).

By the way......12 days to the MD Rally. Let me know if you want me to get
the other Ambo or the Convert ready for you :-)

Subject: cylinder/piston advice needed!

hi dave-
after getting kermit outfitted with the new engine/trans., i went out for
a
ride today- real nice, but the torque just wasn't there [STILL!] so i came
back home and grabbed the compression guage. crap!!! 120lbs., left cyl.,
150
 rt.cyl........
question- i lubed the cyl. walls with a liberal dose of stp engine oil
treatment before sliding them over the pistons. is it possible that this
sticky stuff has prevented the rings from sealing? i was gonna assemble
them
dry [figuring the nikisil is hard stuff & could take it] but d. richardson
reccommended against it. i did lap the valves, so this is the only thing i
can think of. if so, i guess i gotta tear it down again @#$!!%&(%!! and
hone
 [?] the cyls.???
any advice is needed& wanted, with thanks!!!!!
andy
