I run a Amb.eng. in my 68 v700 frame with the 8/37 rear and 4 spd.trans.I
sometimes start out in 2nd.when I feel lazy. Still pulls pretty good using
only 3 gears. On the other side of gearing:I run a 8/35 rear in my Eldo.(it
has the 949cc kit)I find this works good for highway cruising. This is
running a 120/90 Avon on the back,about 26.5" in dia.I tried a 450/18,about
27.2" in dia. This made the overall gearing too tall!

Being the procrastinatin' type I ended up with the Eldo 8/37 gear on my Ambassador. I had rebuilt the whole driveline, engine, transmission, u-joint. Well I got to the rear and looked at the pile of new stuff and then glanced over to see a perfectly funtional Eldo unit. Rode off on it 30 minutes later. Been 8 years. Anywho.. The moral of the story is it FLIES down the road. The fresh engine (now has about 5K on it) with the higher numeric gear is a scream to ride. BTW Guzzi makes (or made) six (I think) different gearsets that fit the Loops, etc. I'll post the ratios if anybody wants to know. Hunter |
