Not to mention all the Milan folks that tour arond the area on the weekend.
When I was there (not the 75th), I stayed at a place on the lake and took the
boat ferry to Mandelo. It is kind of neat arriving that way. There is also a
youth hostel not far: (stayed there as well) you can drink your beer on the
terrace and watch the sun go down on the mountains.

Lodging locally is now impossible unless you want to sleep wall to wall in the park as many do. You'll probably have to go to Lecco or Milan for a hotel and train it every day.
