 1) I've been informed that there is an interference with the tachometer
drive gear on the camshaft (tonti motor) with the loopframe timing
cover.

No problem there, the tach drive is part of the timing cover on the
Tonti and goes away when you swap it with the loopframe one.

I know some, if not all Eldos had chain driven

Mine was, a '74 titled as a '75. No clearance problems and I put
Agostini gears in mine!

 2) I was also told the dual point distributor used on tonti engines
will interfere (physically) with the generator.

Yep, I hit mine with a grinder and the problem went away.

So will the Eldo distributor plug into a tonti engine case? I have a
distributor from a V700- is it different than an Eldo distributor?

This brings us back to the cam gear, which differs between the two
motors. You can use either distributor but you must match the
distributor drive to the cam. To use the earlier one you need the gear
from the bottom of the later one to graft on. I wanted electronic
ignition so I used the later distributor. Dyna doesn't make anything
for the earlier bikes.

Thanks in advance for any help! This is what discussion groups are
for-to discuss all the details that aren't in the books!

Except THE BOOK, Guzziology that is.

Catch you later.
