Joe,

The Eldo distributor will fit. You have to look at the housing that the
distributor fits into. There is a difference between the V700 and Eldo
distributor housing as I found out, the V700/750 has a smaller housing
flange that fits into the case, therefore you will have to find an Eldo one
that has the bigger flange. If you want I can take a picture of both for you
to see the difference. The dual point will make contact against the
generator as it is much bigger than the Eldo kind. As for the tach drive, I
believe I read somewhere that you would have to remove the drive gear on the
cam or I think you could replace the cam with one from an Eldo, much better
than ruining a good cam.

Okay, we have established that the timing cover dictates the location of the
front engine mount-reverting to a loop frame timing cover will negate the
requirement to change the frame tabs on a loop frame/tonti engine marriage.
ALso, by converting the tonti engine to run a generator with the Teo Lamers
crankshaft adapter-this is good info!

Now to throw a fly in the buttermilk. Two more possible problems:
1) I've been informed that there is an interference with the tachometer
drive gear on the camshaft (tonti motor) with the loopframe timing cover.
I'm having a brain cramp right now and can't envision the tach gear on the
cam-must be located on the forward side of the cam drive sprocket, but is it
integral with the sprocket? I know some, if not all Eldos had chain driven
cams/oil pump-are those cams different on the forward end than tonti engines
,i.e., longer up front?

2) I was also told the dual point distributor used on tonti engines will
interfere (physically) with the generator. So will the Eldo distributor plug
into a tonti engine case? I have a distributor from a V700- is it different
than an Eldo distributor?

Thanks in advance for any help! This is what discussion groups are for-to
discuss all the details that aren't in the books!
