Thanks for your response. Those 2 locating bushes are in fact where
the casting is thicker, so those longer studs must go in there. My
problem now is getting them in all the way. There is still some residue
in the holes from the bead blasting, and they're quite tough to clean
out.

I think if you look around the perimeter of the bell housing at the transmission, you will be able to see that the thickness of the aluminum casting is thicker in two of the mounting areas and these would require longer studs.
