Hi All,
I thought I would way in here on this.
I agree with all who say there should be no play in the bearings but I think
I remember reading in Guzziology (?) that there should be just the slightest
amount of play in the bearings....just a hint of it.
When I get a little time I will have a look to see if I can find the source
of this.
As for riding with the play.....if it is excessive I would deal with it for
risk of damaging your bearings...which are hard to replace.
One more thing.....might be worth having a look at the bearings. When I was
restoring my 70 Ambo....one of the races had a hairline crack. I'm not sure
if that would cause slack in the bearing but I changed it for fear of it
breaking up at 60mph.
Regards...Ian

Well, I suspected as much... it seems sloppy at the hub (meaning I can shake it from side to side.) Is it safe to ride this way or do I need to take care of this ASAP??? Thanks, Barry |
