Will do. I've heard stories of tires exploding because of Fix-a-Flat (an older formulation) gas catching fire during dismounting the tire so I know where you're coming from. Chris in NC

If you choose to put that slime, fix a flat or whatever uh.."stuff" in your tires and also take them to a shop for servicing....please tell the wheel guy or note on the order that that "stuff" is in there.
As a former tire service guy who has had to deal with that mess, on behalf of tire service folk around the globe, we would appreciate the courtesy.

I doubt anything could hold a 1 inch rip in a tube. But I figure anything that can give me an edge even in some circumstances is worth a try. Good you were able to keep it rolling. I am usually praying my tires hold up whenever I pass a 10 wheeler . whew!

The last flat I had was on the rear of "Flame" going 70 mph down I 495, picked up a nail, I was able to stop ok and stay up, the nail made a tiny hole in the tire, which was real hard to find, but the tube had a rip in it 1" long. I wonder if something like this would even be effective in a situation like that? Pounding nails in a standing still tire is different than picking up a nail at 70 mph.

Chris, IN the latest issue of Rider magazine, there is a new product review |
for
| something that coats the inside of tires and is supposed to prevent punctures by self sealing. Its been sold and proven for construction equipment and now offered for motorcycles. Claimed 100% effective in tubeless and 60% for tubed tires, the Rider folks pounded nails into a treated tire, both a tubed and tubeless, |
and
| got virtually no air loss.
I don't recall the name of the product, I'd have to check the magazine article. The Honda dealer I showed it to, wasn't too interested in |
looking
| into it. Was worried about liability claims. I think this is the way |
it
| will go with other dealers too. The quoted installation cost in |
Rider
| was $10-15 per tire. Damn cheap investment even at 60% claimed for |
the
| tube tires.
I'll get the name and pass it on to the list tomorrow. There was no mention of balancing in the article tho. Pete

Actually, I think I rode around on that nail for at least a week...the |
head
| was worn rally badly, and the bike hadn't felt right for at least that long!
When I had the tube changed, I had the guy put another bottle of |
that
| balancing liquid in. I firmly believe that this is what kept the |
tube/tire
| from having a major blowout! He doesn't use Slime, but another brand. Btw,
I saw an ad for Slime and all they say it's for is puncture sealing. |
Does
| anyone know whether or not it will balance tires too? Chris in NC

Chris, Maybe your luck is better than you think. Was at the Honda dealer last week, saw a bike brought in on a |
|
flatbed.
| | rider and passenger had a rear blowout on I 81 near here. He |
|
slowed but
| | lost it. actually minor damage to bike considering, but his girlfriend is in |
|
the
| | hospital. He says his Aerostich saved his butt.

Damnable luck today...my back tire is flat, with a nail in it. I hope that patching the tire and replacing the tube is good enough. |
|
I
| | don't see replacing a nearly new tire cos of a tiny hole. Glad it didn't go out on me on my way to work this AM...poor handling |
|
on
| | that ride is what made me check it. Input welcome! Chris in NC _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer athttp://explorer.msn.com |
