IN the latest issue of Rider magazine, there is a new product review for
something that coats the inside of tires and is supposed to prevent
punctures by self sealing. Its been sold and proven for construction
equipment and now offered for motorcycles.
Claimed 100% effective in tubeless and 60% for tubed tires, the Rider folks
pounded nails into a treated tire, both a tubed and tubeless, and got
virtually no air loss.
I don't recall the name of the product, I'd have to check the magazine
article. The Honda dealer I showed it to, wasn't too interested in looking
into it. Was worried about liability claims. I think this is the way it
will go with other dealers too. The quoted installation cost in Rider
was $10-15 per tire. Damn cheap investment even at 60% claimed for the
tube tires.
I'll get the name and pass it on to the list tomorrow. There was no
mention of balancing in the article tho.

Actually, I think I rode around on that nail for at least a week...the head
was worn rally badly, and the bike hadn't felt right for at least that long!
When I had the tube changed, I had the guy put another bottle of that
balancing liquid in. I firmly believe that this is what kept the tube/tire
from having a major blowout! He doesn't use Slime, but another brand. Btw,
I saw an ad for Slime and all they say it's for is puncture sealing. Does
anyone know whether or not it will balance tires too?

Was at the Honda dealer last week, saw a bike brought in on a flatbed. rider and passenger had a rear blowout on I 81 near here. He slowed but lost it. actually minor damage to bike considering, but his girlfriend is in the hospital. He says his Aerostich saved his butt. I hope that patching the tire and replacing the tube is good enough. I don't see replacing a nearly new tire cos of a tiny hole.
