Keith,
Steering lock.....big effort if you can't get the tumbler out. Of course
being in NJ there are probably lots of excellent lock pickers around eh? :-)
Just kidding!
To get the tumbler out there is a little pin that is released to allow you
to get the tumbler out. If you don't have a key then you need to rely on the
locksmith. Mine had no luck.
If you can get the tumbler out then making a copy is easy. I found my blank
Neiman at a BMW shop. Easy to get.
Of course you can alway drill out the lock but you will have to strip your
steering head to get the metal filings out of the inside. My
opinion....don't bother. Besides.....unless you chain the thing to a light
post all they will do is pick up the bike and throw it into the back of a
pickup. Steering lock won't help you there.
Best way in my opinion is to not let the bike out of your sight. Next best
is to attachit to something solid with the toughest chain you can carry.
Regards...Ian

Subject: Steering Head/Fork Lock
Greetings, Searched through the archives for this topic, found some stuff but never a resolution. I do not have a key to my fork lock, but would like to get it working if it doesn't require major effort. What can I do to get a key to fit and work in this lock? Or should I not bother? What type of lock do y'all use if I don't use the steering lock? Would like to drive the Ambo to work, but don't want to leave her unprotected. Thanx, Keith Ruff 71 Police Amabassador - NJ |
