Charles-
Thanks for the info. Will check that out. Fortunately, if I make a spring
compressor, the parts will be free and the labor wil be free. My bandmate
(Three chord rock and roll forever!!!) and best friend is the purchasing
director for a large machine shop in my town. Materials would probably be
scrap they throw away. The head machinist does lots of "government work" so
labor would be free too. I'll check the D.K. catalog anyway tho' cos their
product will likely be better than my half-assed,
jury-rigged-contraption-that-may-possibly-cost-me-an-eye. ;o
Y'all enjoy!

Hi Chris,
Dennis Kirk has a shock spring compressor tool in their print catalog -
item
#28-697, cost is $29.99. I've never tried one, but looks like it should
work
well. If you factor in your labor cost (time) and materials it might be
cheaper
to buy than build. Just a thought. Cheers,

Charlie

Thanks...I was looking at the bottom of the shock. Didn't know they
attached at the top. Will probably have to make a spring compressor...I
can't find one small enough to get between the coils.

Most shocks come apart by compressing the spring (with spring
compressor

tool) and removing collets under top eye.

How do you get the rear shocks apart? I have tried turning the
preload

adjustment, but it doesn't want to turn past the adjustment settings
nd

 I
am afraid to turn too hard.
