The difference is because of tread design direction...if you don't run a
rear tire backwards on the front it won't direct water away.......I called
Avon years ago on this.....the tech guy wouldn't officially say it was okay
to do this but said off the record go for it....

I recall doing this with Phantoms for an SR500 I had, and that was what I was told - seemed to make sense to me. I've only done this a few times on bikes over the years but never had a problem. I've always mounted a rear on the front and never a front on a rear, probably because of sizes more than anything else. Hope this helps.
