Hi Richard,
My '69 Ambassador averages 40-45 mpg. This is usually on a mixture of backroads
and highway, very little in town riding. It was quite a shock to "only" get 40
mpg after riding a 350 Morini before it - when ridden enthusiastically mileage
dropped into the 60s, normal was 80 plus! :-)
