Peter,
I wish to add my comments to this brake thread. I have removed and cleaned
and lubed (what needed to be lubed) the front brakes on a number of bikes.
With these Guzzis, and their less than optimal brakes, it would be a good
idea to get a new brake cable from Mark as suggested and then lube the new
cable with cable lube and clean all your brake parts inside and out. Remove
all brake dust and crud in the drum; obviously do not use oily rags to clean
brake drums. I think you will have more peace of mind with clean good
working brakes. You always want as much stopping power on loopframes as
possible. Best, Bob Hawkes

Hi Peter,
Have you tried lubing the brake linkage down at the wheel? Squirt each
area that
pivots on the linkage with WD40 and work it by hand. The lever where the
cable
connects should return to a neutral position (no drag) when you let go of
it. If
not you may have to remove the front wheel and either find what is binding
and
free it up or as Mark said replace the return springs.
If your cable looks to be the original, it probably is long overdue for
replacement. Keep it as a spare and buy a new one from Mark. It isn't a
characteristic of Loopframe brakes to drag, the wheel should turn freely
when
the lever is released. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Guys,

The brake cable doesn't return all the way when I release the handle and
the

shoes drag. If I push the handle open by hand the brake will move a
little

more, but still some drag. I tried the obvious things like flushing the
cable with wd40 and then squirting some light oil down the cable. It
seems

pretty free when I slide the cable with the ends unattached

I read in the Tips booklet that a new cable was recommended for best
brake

 performance.
I believe this could be the original cable. Is it worth buying a new
cable, or is this just a characteristic of the loop drums??
I dont have another loopframe in the neighborhood to look at.

Looking for any input.

Thanks a lot
Pete
