Hi All,
Rod bolts are to be torqued but once. The crust of the biscuit is that they
stretch when tightened. If you compare an old one to a new, unused one you
may well see a difference in length as well as see the distortion in the
threads beyond the nut. Some applications call for tightening the bolts to
a specific length rather than torque on the nut. My money is on the new
bolt each and every time.
I hate that they cost so much though.
As memory serves the flywheel bolts are stretch bolts too.

Hello Fellow Loopers, On a related note, how about reusing the rod bolts? I'm inclined to replace them instead of having my newly rebuilt Ambassador go BOOM! I understand that they're about $35 ea., but I'd rather do it right the first time instead of doing it over. Your thoughts on this as well? Charlie 3 Ambos |
