And a very good idea it was too. When a motor is "blueprinted", matching
piston and cylinder (piston-cylider clearance) is one of the things they do.
Therefore, Guzzi has already done this for us :). The difference between
A, B, and C pistons is only a few thousandths, but it is important to run
them in their respective cylinders. Measure carefully to see if a different
piston will fit your cylinder. Clearance should be between .0010" and
.0019" for a loop frame.

Indeed the differences were small but what Guzzi did was to identify the ranges and to keep the tolerances constant. Therefore the pistons were matched to the cylinders. Regards...Ian
