As I understand it there are (were) uncertainties in the manufacturing
process. Indeed the differences were small but what Guzzi did was to
identify the ranges and to keep the tolerances constant. Therefore the
pistons were matched to the cylinders.

My Ambo's cylinders have a 'B' cast in them indicating that they are
type 'B'. As far as I understand it there were only very (very) small bore
differences between the A, B and C cylinders. Does anyone have any fact,
fiction or speculation as to why this was done? Did the A's chrome flake
faster than the C cylinders? Were they all manufactured at the same time?
And was there any rhyme or reason as to how each was used during any given
production cycle? Or is this just another Italian mystery?
