Mark,
The shaft is the same diameter (15mm), the keyway is the same size
(3mm), and the Guzzi pulley slips right on; but the cooling fins on the
Guzzi pulley rub up against the front of the VW type III gennie. The
solution is to take a Guzzi pulley and cut the fan fins off of it.
(Cleaning it up with a lathe, of course). Once this is done the VW
generator should bolt right on in place of the Marelli. The diameter of
the Bosch generator is .115" larger than that of the original Marelli,
but that is easily remedied by cutting two .057" deep grooves (again
with a lathe) to correspond with the saddles of the mounting bracket,
thus eliminating the need for the locating pin. Voila', should drop
right in with no alteration of the cover. I will post pictures when I
get it completed and we will let the loopframe masses judge whether or
not it passes muster in the "clean installation" department.
