Hello All,
On V700s and early Ambos there is a long "nut" with a 22(?)mm head closest the
gas tank. This would be torqued to the same spec. as the other five nuts. On
later Guzzis there is a plug with a 10mm hex head recess in it that covers the
actual nut under it. Remove the plug, then torque the nut under it. Hope nobody
was torquing that plug! :-)

I was retorquing my heads for the first time and discovered this oddity too.
Gave my 10mm allen wrench to my machine shop buddy and had the angle cut
off. Put it in a 10mm socket and torqued away!
Learn something new about these bikes every day.

LOL, Bruce, I have all of the gaskets sitting waiting to pull the
cylinders and check the chrome on my Ambo. It has a visible leak (weep) in
the left cylinder head gasket but it has been ridable weather here in Ca
(yea I know rub it in!) so I have been hesitant to tear into it. My wife
went to the movie with a friend last Friday night so I got brave and
decided
just to pull the rockers and re-torque the left cylinder for the time
being.
So I get the torque specs and sequence from the manual and have at it. The
whole time I am wondering why this one top bolt is like a 26mm when the
rest
of the nuts are 17mm. And why is it that the rest of the nuts were 3-5 ft
lbs loose and this big bolt is over torqued if anything. There is no 10 mm
hex hole on mine. So I must confess also that it went right by me ;-O.
But now I see the light,

When I replaced all the gaskets on my Eldo, much to my
chagrin, I
discovered that the real cylinder head nut is under the big cover
bolt.
It sure looked like the big bolt was being torqued down in the
owners
manual. It wasn't until I read the blurb from Moto Int. that came
with
the gasket set: use a 10 mm hex wrench to remove the nut. "Huh?"
was
all I could say/think. Next was, "Damn, that's weird!".

So all this time I've been torquing down the cover nut to 30
ft lbs!
