For what it is worth, and don't quote me!
The picture is definitely a Wixom fairing. The earlier ones didn't have the
turnsignals in the fairing. My 70 Ambo, purchased in 1971 had the same Wixom
my current 69 Ambo has - no turn signals. When I bought a new Eldo, in Oct
of '72, it had the "truck" turn signals in the fairing, with a small hole on
the back side so you could see the signal from the back as well. I recall
having to put a rubber gasket behind the lights as they would vibrate
against the fairing.........of course, I was a kid back then and ran that
Eldo pretty hard!

I think that everything is original to the bike include all the Wixom accouterments. "Original" means that the paint is faded and chipped, the engine isn't shiny, and there are spots of rust on some of the chrome parts. But it also means that I don't have to wash her all that often ! List of restoration chores after I purchased Antonia: - rebuild both carbs (some of the internal O-rings were as hard as |
- replace clutch discs due to failed tranny seal - replace header pipes and mufflers - rebuild front forks - replace fort springs with Moto Inter. progressive springs (very nice!) - replace shocks with Progressive Shocks - K491 Elite Touring II tires - replace horns (now you can really hear them) - upgrade to a Rich Maund seat (with gel packs under the covers) - new battery and cables - replaced all the rear drive seals - replaced all brake shoes - replaced all the cables (brake, clutch, throttle) - new Bosch 'blue' coil and Packard 440 ignition wires - rebuilt the distributor - refurbished many on the electrical connections - most recently replaced the valve guides, exhaust valves on both |
The bike starts on the second revolution, never has left me stranded, took my wife and I out to Taos NM from Silver Spring Md last year and only skipped one beat all the way. This included riding in a downpour just west of Kansas City where the visibility was about 5". And with the Rich M. seat, out butts never got sore; but my right shoulder did. I recently got some police handlebars from Mark but I haven't had enough time to ride around to tell if it will alleviate the problem. The turn signal lights can be found at any NAPA dealer; they are a stock item. One side is red and the other yellow. I recently fitted them up to use dual element bulbs so that I now have front running lights. Put in a H-4 headlamp from JCWitless - put in two small relays to run them directly from the battery - already lost the original light switch due to a short under the instrument panel. Bruce
