Hi All,
I wanted to know if it was neccessary to have an internal resistor in the
coil. I think I bought a spare VW coil without one. It says on the coil:
"use with primary resistance wire or external resistor"
Does that mean I need to put an external 3 ohm resistor on it. On which
pole...+ or -?
I apologize for the ignorance :-)

Vince, just go to the local VW parts store, and get a Bosch "Blue" coil, for the '60's era VW's. It has the 3ohm internal ballast resistor, and works very well. As for plug wire, just order some Packard 440 wire from Moto International, along with the NGK connectors for each end, and don't forget the little metal pieces that screw into the end of the wire that goes into the coil. Easy to assemble, and very reliable. Don Ivey '71 Ambo |
