Hello everybody, I am trying to upgrade my ignition system on my 73 Eldo. I want to keep the points setup because of simplicity, so I am going to change the coil for a better spark. I am thinking of getting a Bosch gt 40 coil(is their a better coil? ), does anyone have the part number for this coil? It should be stamped on the coil. I contacted Bosch and they need the number or the application it was used for. Does anyone make a custom set of spark plug wires for the Eldo? I want to say thanks in advance! I'm glad that their is a place for loopframe lovers to get together and help to keep these bikes running. Take care. Vince |
Vince, just go to the local VW parts store, and get a Bosch "Blue"
coil, for the '60's era VW's. It has the 3ohm internal ballast
resistor, and works very well. As for plug wire, just order some
Packard 440 wire from Moto International, along with the NGK
connectors for each end, and don't forget the little metal pieces
that screw into the end of the wire that goes into the coil. Easy to
assemble, and very reliable.
