On the lubricants issue, I was wondering what people are using in their trannys and rears. I was using 80W90 but recently, when at Dave's place I used 80W140 (in that range). I was wondering if there was a difference in that? |
I use Bel Ray 80/W90 in the tranny and final drive. It's a hypoid gear oil and
supposedly does not foam up.
This is particularly important to those of us who are running the older,
non-vented final drives. A friend of mine with an Eldorado was blowing out the
seal on his final drive about once a month. He switched to Bel Ray and has not
had a problem since. I change the tranny oil about once a year.
I run Castrol 10W40 in my '71 Ambassador and change it every 1000 miles. I buy
it by the case since I run it in my all my 4 wheeled vehicles and in my Suzuki
plus there's always some mooch that comes over and drinks my beer and "borrows"
a quart. Which reminds me, I need to make a run to Costco this morning. Beer
and oil.....
Cheers,
Dave
