Brendan, I did that 1000 kit conversion on my eldo and it does work. However,
because of the different piston weight and perhaps the balance factor, the
engine never smoothed out. I wasn't told this and ended up selling the machine.
I wasn't tell I rode a friends 1000 whose crank was balanced for that piston
weight that I relized a guzzi engine was so smooth. In short, if it were me,
I'd find some new 850 pistons or plan on having my crank balanced to fit the
heavier 1000 pisonts.

I'd appreciate any advice/opinions on my problem. I have a '73 El Dorado which I'm in the process of restoring. (See attachment). I've got it running great, with one exception: a loud "tapping/banging" noise from the right cylinder above 3000 rpm. I thought it was a valve train issue, so I replaced the rocker arms, which were a little wobbly feeling, and put new bushings in them. That didn't help much, so now my belief is that it is piston slap. A couple of people confirmed my opinion - and the fact that the noise diminishes when under load, either accelerating or decelerating, seems to bear this out. In any event, I'm prepared to replace the cylinders and pistons. I've located a lightly used set (on ebay) that are billed as 1000cc @ 88 mm bore. My question is - will I need to do anything significant to the heads or carburetors to accomodate the increased displacement, or should it just be a case of installing the new cylinders/pistons and making mixture/idle adjustments? Anything I should watch out for in the disassembly/assembly process or is it staightforward? Informed advice would be greatly appreciated.
