Having attuned myself to Michael Jones' message (need help), really led to
my own set of solutions/ familiartity with my 1971Ambo.
First of all Bravo! for the comment about check the fuel cap vent-hole
first. Mine was truly plugged, yet because the 'dot' was visible, sort of,
I never gave it a second's glance. Neither unfortunately had 2 paid
mechanics I deal with.
Sunday I took my time & stripped back my whole fuel system, as per
suggestions... the in-tank screens were broken off( it looked like on
purpose) & were non-existent on my bike. A complete disassembly of the
pet-cocks was instructive, as there were restrictions in both, visible
particulate was removed & now both run free in the on position.
I used a 3M Molycote O-ring grease, (just the tiniest smidge), on the black
nylon bearing surface & some anti seize on the threads of the pet
cocks. These sealed up nicely & nothing leaks.
Also dis-assembled banjos for a look & a clean.
I then bought new fuel-line... one fuel filter per side, and 'crossed-over'
my lines, taking care to get a fair run with no kinks on each side, right
pet-cock to left carb, left pet-cock to right carb.
I was able to do away with one 4-way metal union piece, as well as at least
6 hose-clamps someone had crudely attached all that gear together with.
This evening I'm happy 'cause there's less obstruction to my side covers
fitting in place because both fuel lines now traverse the space in front of
the air box, my lines & filters are new, nothing leaks, and in the bargain
I've given the tank a good slosh & rinse while attending to the other
aspects of the system.
Although messy & stinky at times, todays job was rewarding. I see now that
having an actual eye-ball on all component parts leading to the business
end of my carburetor was really necessary for me to de-mystify an important
working system of my motorcycle.
I now forgive my Ambo for having stalled & run crankily on Saturday, making
it necessary for me to take this stuff seriously.

Thanks all who contributed things for me to read on the Loopframe List &
hope Mike Jones is making progress with his bike.
